Lights Will Guide You to the Luma Concept Hotel Hammersmith

As the Coldplay sounding title suggests ‘lights will guide you home’, but why go home when you can enjoy an il-LUMA-nating home-away-from-home within close distance to Central London by staying at The Luma Concept Hotel in Hammersmith.

Luma Concept Hotel Hammersmith

A home-away-from-home located in the heart of Hammersmith, West London. The Luma Concept Hotel, provides tourists and commuters alike, with a place to enjoy a boutique hotel experience, away from the hustle and bustle of central London.

Whilst a fairly new addition to the Hammersmith hotel scene, the Luma Concept Hotel celebrates the history of the local area. The inspiration for the hotel sparks from the late Osram Lightbulb Factory, one of the first light factories to be built in Britain and one that dominated the west London area.

This understated look is great for commuters seeking a home-away-from-home hotel to rest their head after a long day of work in the city. There is the added benefit of an outside terrace, which was quite the sunspot during our stay and the perfect place to unwind.

Upon entering the hotel, you are welcomed to a warm and bright reception area.

The theme of ‘light’ is luminescent (I mean, ever-present) as soon as you walk through to reception. Exposed light bulbs and pipework provide a real feature, giving an industrial look. This decor works well with the exposed brickwork and is given a more feminine feel with floral and plant displays.

Igniting the history of the local area, the Luma Hotel provides guests with illuminating quotes throughout the hotel, including one of my faves from The Lord of The Rings!

I only wished I’d gotten chance to read all the quotes dotted around the hotel…I’m a bit of a geek like that!

My friend Ves and I were staying overnight in a superior double room and we were both looking forward to experiencing all that the hotel and Hammersmith has to offer.

The Room

All the rooms at The Luma offer both a boutique and techy feel. They cater for your comfort and relaxation, yet have convenient features to keep you stimulated in a home-away-from-home environment.

One thing we found amazing was the use of space in the hotel room. Upon entering, we noticed the sofa area first, which has a desk opposite and a number of techy features, including a speaker and Nespresso machine.

The desk area works well as the headboard for the bed and provides separate areas to work and sleep, particularly beneficial if you’re staying for business reasons. Though, this area worked just as well for us to apply our makeup!

Techy Features at Luma Boutique Hotel

After taking in the lounge/study area and, of course, trying out the bed and observing the map of London wall art, it occurred to us that we couldn’t see the bathroom…

Behind a cupboard style sliding door you will find the toilet and behind another similar door, you will find the shower and utilities such as a wardrobe, ironing board, and a hairdryer.

Little touches of light are present on the room wall display, cushions and Do Not Disturb sign; keeping a consistent theme throughout the hotel.

I had some initial reservations about our room being road-facing as I love my sleep (after all, this is London!) Though, I needn’t have been concerned, the soundproofed rooms enabled a quality night sleep away from road-noise and disturbance from others staying in the hotel.

Lightbulb Moments

As well as the number of techy features included in the room (I love the cubby charging areas for our phones next to the bed), each room comes with a portable phone enabling guests to make free local and International calls. So handy if you’ve travelled from another country and haven’t set yourself up with a new phone or sim – just remember to return the phone before you check out!

Luma has done away with hotel facilities that you may not use, such as a spa or restaurant, creating a ‘naked stay’ concept. Instead, they cater to the individual needs of their guests. After staying in a number of all-inclusive hotels where I’m sometimes left feeling like a number rather than a valued guest, this is a concept I am 100% on board with!

Forgotten your toothbrush or need some recommendations on where to dine? Luma has it covered. Luma are on had to cater to your individual needs and the rooms even come with hospitality tablets enabling you to see recommendations for the local area. 20% discount for selected restaurants and retailers is also provided by the hotel.

Not a morning person and prefer a late checkout? I hear ya sister! It’s not a problem at Luma. The Luma Hotel operates on a 24-hour policy, so if you didn’t check in until 4 pm, as long as the hotel room is not urgently required they are happy for you to check out at 4 pm the following day.

If you’re out in a hurry or want to sample as much foodie delights as you can whilst in the capital (I’m the latter), then you might want to grab Luma’s Grab & Go breakfast bag.

A complimentary Grab & Go breakfast bag is provided for each guest and includes a bottle of orange juice, piece of fruit and a pastry. My only qualm was that the contents were already in the bags. I’d prefer my juice straight from the fridge with the ability to choose my contents. Though, the idea of a grab & go bag is a nice touch nevertheless.

Lighting the Way

Luma is a boutique hotel with a difference. It’s a hotel providing a convenient and very enjoyable place to stay for tourists visiting the city and equally, commuters staying for business.

I love the concept of the hotel, which embraces both the history of the Hammersmith area and a guest-centric vibe.

I would wholeheartedly stay at the Luma Concept Hotel again, as not only did I have a great night sleep, it also enabled Ves and I the opportunity to browse an undiscovered part of London, whilst still be close enough to venture to Central London if we needed to.

Hammersmith Bridge

The Luma Hotel is located under five minutes walk from Hammersmith Tube (serving the Piccadilly, Hammersmith & City, Circle, and District lines.)

If you are driving to the hotel, the M4 is less than 15 minutes away and the hotel conveniently has a Kings Mall parking area opposite the hotel. There are also a number of 24-hour buses in operation, meaning that all in all the Luma is a very convenient place to stay!

Haha, love the use of the Coldplay lyrics 😉 This hotel looks so unique and I love the focus on lighting; the printed canvas in your bedroom is such a statement – love it!

I really love how they’ve taken inspiration from the late Osram Lightbulb Factory and completely ran with it! Such a quirky little place, exactly what I want in a hotel! I really like the thoughtful little touches like the in room mobile breakfast to go and I’m so impressed with the check out policy, it’s great to hear they are so flexible!

I’m definitely going to be checking them out next time I’m heading to London!
